Hi, everyone: I couldn’t figure out how to log on yesterday. I know that sounds silly, but I just couldn’t get on my blog! Well, here I am tonight–er, this morning. Woke up to attend to personal ablutions and came down to check the Bears Score. This is strange. Here in the Chicago area, there is an overwhelming feeling of despair about our sports teams, despite the Blackhawks, and even the Bears, who just missed the playoffs last year. I don’t know why, but Chicago teams never seem to do well nationally on any consistent basis. I remember so many moments of despair. The great Jean Shepherd once wrote that if you ever had to storm an active machine gun nest, the people you wanted with you should be White Sox fans: so used to humiliating, debilitating losses, what’s one more? At least then you wouldn’t have to deal this lousy organization any more. But the Cubs–and by the way, why that name? Why not, say, the Chipmunks? The Goldfish? Their logo isn’t anything scary–more like cuddly. Hence the idea of lovable losers, with which they’ve been tagged for over a century. Imagine that? More than a century without a win?
But I digress. Life, apart from sports around here, is good. Chicago is a great place to live. I love it. See you in a few hours
